Explaining and modeling content

Novices analyze a transcript of a teacher modeling two reading strategies using _Invisible Man_ by Ralph Ellison. The transcript illustrates the difference between explaining and modeling as well as numerous modeling moves and content knowledge for teaching literary analysis.

Includes a modeling primer and planning guide for teacher candidates as well as a guide for coaching novices as they practice modeling

In this activity, the teacher educator introduces novices to the practice of modeling and explaining content by sharing slides that give an overview of the practice, its purpose and its relationship to equity. The activity then engages novices in thinking about distinctions between demonstrating, explaining and modeling.
